In March 2023, the IGas Community Fund awarded over £35,000 worth of grants to support 26 projects in towns and villages close the company’s operations in Lincolnshire, Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex. This takes the total awarded to date to over £1.2 million.
Grants were awarded to a wide variety of projects ranging from wi-fi for a Scout HQ in Surrey to tools for volunteers maintaining community woodland in Lincolnshire.
Money has also been allocated for improvements to community buildings; for specialist equipment to help sick and disabled young people; for the creation of sensory gardens and havens for nature; for the purchase and refurbishment of play equipment in local parks; for speed control signs to improve road safety; for defibrillators and for a crime prevention initiative in Gainsborough.
The panel gave priority to projects which would be able to proceed on the strength of a grant from the Fund and which would benefit a wide span of the local community. It also looked for projects that would be sustainable long-term without further substantial fundraising.
