In March 2017, the IGas Community Fund awarded close to £54,000 worth of grants to support 21 projects in towns and villages close the company’s operations in the North West, South and East Midlands, and in the Caithness area of Scotland. This takes the total awarded over nine years to almost £1 million.

Projects that have benefited range from a speed reduction scheme in the East Midlands, to the provision of sports equipment and craft materials for a play streets initiative in the North West.

Money has also been allocated to several rural villages for the refurbishment or improvement of community buildings, the improvement of outdoor areas at schools and the replacement of potentially life-saving equipment for emergency responders.

The panel gave priority to projects located closest to the company’s oil and gas operations and to those where the benefits would go to the widest span of the community. It also looked for projects that would be sustainable long-term without further substantial fund-raising.
